So the latest blogger meetup forced me to break rule # 2
Orcmid asks me in the comments to my previous post whether or not I felt the Microsoft presence was too promotional. I’m happy to say I was completely wrong about Scobles intentions.
I don’t care if a person works at Microsoft personally, everyone has to put food on their table and they’re not responsible for their employers actions anymore than anyone else. I can say that everyone that I’ve met that works for Microsoft have been both smart and nice. The only problem I have with them in social situations is that if you get more than two of them together, all they talk about is what they do at Microsoft. Gimme the synopsis and move on, I don’t care how far down the in stack something is that you are working on or how it relates to some obscure technology that Microsoft never released.
That being said, I met some interesting people that night. I saw a few familiar names but didn’t get a chance to talk to them. I made my way over to Julie Leung, who has left comments here before, and said hi. I got to witness her little girls photoblogging.
I almost sat down to talk with Ted and Dare, but I figured that they were probably discussing some XML topic that is waaaay over my head. I’m still at the “XML is a nice replacement for CSV” stage. Still, I might have picked up something by verbal osmosis. I got to talk to Dennis (Orcmid) as well as Jack Bell and Anita.
The Jones BBQ stand in the food court was great. The hot BBQ sauce was probably only two or three “thai hotness” stars, but was tasty.

I’d have gone too despite God’s hating the Eastside but couldn’t find any (and I mean ANY) decent bus schedule. The last thing on the planet I want to do is try and get to Bellevue at evening rush - so how did you get there? Drive? Does anyone know of a KC Metro bus which has a decent sked from downtown? I could’ve taken ST but I think I’m opposed to them on principal.
